The Newcastle United team managed by Kevin Keegan in the mid-nineties when the club pushed Manchester United all the way for the Premier league title and were so famously known as the “Entertainers” with their attacking flair and goal scoring. They participated in what many believe is the greatest Premier League game vs Liverpool in 1995/96 losing 4-3 when they so nearly won the Premier League title only to be pipped by Manchester United. In those days the team had the likes of David Ginola, Les Ferdinand, Peter Beardsley and Andy Cole (before he left for Man United with Keith Gillespie coming to St James Park) plus they signed Alan Shearer in 1996 as the team came 2nd twice in the Premier League first under Kevin Keegan and then by Kenny Dalglish after he replaced Keegan in mid-season after the Englishman left the club.

Under the new owners Eddie Howe was appointed to replace Steve Bruce in October 2021 and the former Bournemouth boss has proved a very shrewd appointment. Howe took Newcastle from the relegation zone to a solid mid-table finish as he added smart signings like Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn and Matt Targett to stabilise and reinforce the team in the January 2022 window and remoulded players like Joelinton to form a solid starting XI.

After a summer transfer window that saw the excellent purchases of Nick Pope, Bruno Guimarães, Alexander Isak and Sven Botman, Eddie Howe has rebuilt the spine of the team making it a force to be reckoned with as their current 4th place in the Premier League as well as making it to the final of the Carabao Cup are showing. The team have been responsible in the transfer market carefully signing players who fit the DNA of the team Howe is building.
