‘Arguably Newcastle’s Player Of The Season’ Trailblazing Pundit Praises Toon Star For Remarkable Turnaround

BBC Pundit Garth Crooks heaped praise on a Newcastle United player for his brilliant display in the Toon’s rout of Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend – none other than Brazilian box-to-box midfielder Joelinton.

Crooks included Joelinton in his Team of the Week, as featured on BBC Sport. The 26-year-old made it into the XI over the likes of Harry Wilson, Theo Walcott and Mohamed Salah, who also put forth strong individual efforts at the weekend.

In his article, Crooks wrote: “My man of the match and arguably Newcastle’s player of the season is Joelinton. When he arrived at Newcastle he looked anything but a top-four player. He is now ever-present in a Newcastle side that’s going places.”

Not only was Crooks full of praise for Joelinton, he likewise remarked on the team’s collective performance on the day. He praised the Toon for their mental fortitude, saying that they had ‘completely recovered’ from their ‘mauling’ against Aston Villa last weekend.

He also erroneously placed Joelinton in the right-wing position, despite the Brazilian playing in central midfield for the duration of the match.

Joelinton was a nightmare for Spurs to deal with on Sunday afternoon – his physicality, coupled with his tireless running, was enough to run Tottenham’s midfield ragged.
