Newcastle Set To Demand Over £130M For “Brilliant” Midfielder Following Romano Contract Update

Newcastle would “hold out” for a fee “north of” £130m for midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports.

Juventus have been tipped as a potential suitor for the Italian international in recent days, and the player himself has fueled speculation by stating that he would be open to returning to his home country one day.

However, The Chronicle claim that the Magpies would demand more for Tonali than they received from Liverpool for Alexander Isak.

That is an eye-watering valuation and it remains to be seen if the club will stick to that figure if bids are tabled for the 25-year-old in the future.

Newcastle have not offered the player a new contract

There have been reports in the local media suggesting that Eddie Howe’s team are prepared to offer an extension to Tonali, but journalist Fabrizio Romano has played down those rumours. Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said:

“I’m not aware of negotiations over new deal. Newcastle love Tonali, but at the moment it doesn’t involve new deal.”

Tonali’s contract expires in 2028, so there is still a considerable amount of time before the club need to consider extending his stay at St James’ Park.

Tonali’s performances have been widely praised

The Italian had a very tough start to life at Newcastle, with his suspension from football for breaching betting rules keeping him on the sidelines for ten months.

On his return to action, though, Tonali began to show what he is all about. His displays were recently singled out by Paul Scholes.

The Manchester United legend described him as a “brilliant” player and he even said that he rated Tonali higher than the likes of Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo. Those remarks alone could be used to justify Newcastle’s sizeable asking price.
