Newcastle Join 6 Club Battle For Ex-Chelsea Striker Who ‘Has Ambitions’ Of Returning To The Premier League

Newcastle are one of the teams weighing up a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer, according to reports.

The former Chelsea player is currently on loan at AC Milan but TBRFootball claim that he “has ambitions” of returning to England at the end of the season.

Abraham is said to be hopeful of gaining more international caps. His former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is now manager of the Three Lions and he feels that he would have a greater chance of playing for his country if he represents a Premier League team.

The 27-year-old will still have two years left on his contract when he returns to Roma in July but the Giallorossi are likely to be open to selling him for the right price.

Newcastle will have competition to sign the forward

TBRFootball report that West Ham, Fulham, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leeds are also monitoring Abraham’s situation.

All five clubs may be able to offer more first-team opportunities than the Magpies. Alexander Isak is the club’s main No.9 and the England international would have to be satisfied with playing second fiddle if he decides to make the move to St James’ Park.

Abraham would likely replace Wilson

Callum Wilson is set to leave Newcastle when his contract expires at the end of June. The 32-year-old has had difficulties staying fit over the past twelve months. Chest, back and hamstring injuries have restricted the striker to 12 appearances since February last year.

The decision has reportedly already been made not to hand Wilson a new deal so a replacement will be required. It appears that Abraham is among the candidates being considered although there are likely to be other names on the club’s shortlist of targets as well.
