Ex-Chelsea managers Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are the odds’ on favorites to become the next Newcastle United manager should Eddie Howe leave for the England job.
Both the German and Argentinian were linked with Manchester United but missed out on that job as Ineos and Jim Ratcliffe decided to stick with Eric ten Hag.
After Gareth Southgate resigned at the start of the week, Howe was immediately touted as a target for the FA only if they could tempt him away from his current role at Newcastle United.
According to BBC Sport, the Magpies are determined to keep Howe at St James’ Park but the lure of managing his national team could be too much to tempt him away.
If he were to leave Newcastle, the current favorites to take over at St James’ Park are Mauricio Potchettino (7/4) and Thomas Tuchel (2/1) according to Gambling.com.
Graham Potter is a leading candidate for Newcastle United
Furthermore, fellow England target manager Graham Potter is backed at 5/2 to become the next Newcastle manager. The Ex-Brighton and Chelsea boss hasn’t been in a job since April 2023 when he was sacked by the Blues.
He is one of the favored choices by the FA to replace Gareth Southgate, much like Howe, and so would be a worthy replacement for the former Bournemouth manager, should he take the England job.
Thomas Frank to land big job with Toon?
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has done an excellent job with the London club. He took them from 11th in the Championship to becoming a stable Premier League club.
But it feels as though he may struggle to take them much further so could it be time for Frank to land a job at a team looking to make inroads into European football?
He’s backed at 3/1 just behind Graham Potter.
Honorable mentions: Ralf Rangnick and Edin Terzic
Following a fantastic spell as Austria National team boss, former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is backed at 7/2 and would provide Newcastle with a boss who has Europa League and Champions League experience.
Edin Terzic left Borussia Dortmund in June and so is also available if Howe decides to leave Newcastle for the England job this summer.
