Newcastle United goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen has sustained a hamstring injury whilst away on international duty.
The France Under-21 international played the full 90 minutes of the 2-0 win over Estonia on Tuesday night, but he subsequently pulled up in training.
According to the Shields Gazette, Jaouen is set to return to the North East for further assessment by the Magpies’ medical team, having already undergone an MRI scan.
The 20-year-old is also highly unlikely to be in the matchday squad for the next game against Coventry City a week on Monday.
Jaouen has been plagued with injuries since his arrival
Newcastle spent £18m at the beginning of July to secure the keeper’s services from Ligue One side Stade de Reims, but he has found it difficult to stay fit over the past few months.
A back problem meant that Jaouen missed two pre-season friendlies, and while he did manage to make his debut against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup at the end of August, he was then struck down with an ankle injury.
The Frenchman was unavailable for the Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth, Leeds and Hull City, while Lukas Hornicek kept goal in the Carabao Cup third-round tie versus Millwall.
Latest Newcastle United injury news
Head coach Matthias Jaissle has said that he is hoping to have several players back available after the international break. The treatment room is not a pretty sight at the moment, with Jaouen becoming the TWELTH member of the first-team squad to be struck down.
Lewis Miley (knock) had to withdraw from the England Under-21 squad, while Will Osula (ankle), Nico Gonzalez (concussion), Amar Dedic (hamstring), Jacob Ramsey (thigh), Tino Livramento (knock), Joelinton (muscular), Dan Burn (ankle), Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Sean Steur (both fatigue) and Anthony Elanga (hamstring) were already sidelined.
