Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell has revealed that Joe Willock will return to action “very soon”.
The former Arsenal player picked up a thigh strain after scoring in the victory over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last week but Mitchell has confirmed that he won’t be out for too long:
“Joe Willock – I know he got injured against Forest, but we all saw what he can bring to this team. He’ll be back very soon.”
While supporters on X are happy that Willock is on the comeback trail, some are sceptical about his return considering how unreliable he has been in the past:

Hopefully this time he can stay fit for a while as when he’s playing well he’s a huge asset 🤞🏽

When fit the kid is amazing for us, but he never is. I still say we need to sell him and get the money back we've paid for him.

Wouldn’t rush him or it’s just gonna pop again

Newcastle need all the help they can get
The Magpies may not have European football this season but they failed to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window.
In fact, with Elliot Anderson leaving and long-term injuries sustained by several key players, it could be argued that the team is somewhat weaker. In that context, manager Eddie Howe could do with having Willock in contention as soon as possible.
Who else is currently sidelined?
In addition to Willock, Howe is without Lewis Miley due to a foot injury, Callum Wilson has a back problem, Emil Krafth is carrying a knock, while Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles (both knee) are out until the New Year.
Fabian Schar will, however, return from suspension when Newcastle take on Wolves after the international break.
