Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has revealed that summer signing Yoane Wissa won’t make his debut for the Magpies before the next international break.
The striker was snapped up from Brentford for £50m on Deadline Day but he injured his knee when playing for the Democratic Republic of Congo against Senegal earlier this month.
Wissa has already missed the 1-0 win over Wolves, and when asked ahead of the Barcelona match when the player could make his first appearance for the club, Howe replied:
“Yoane will – we hope – be back after the next international break, so that’s the plan. That can always change, it’s always flexible… but I think that’s what I’ve been told.”
Which fixtures will Wissa miss?
In addition to the game against Barca, the 29-year-old is expected to be absent for at least 5 more matches.
The Magpies face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend, ahead of hosting Bradford City in the third round of the Carabao Cup next week.
Howe’s side then face Arsenal on Sunday week, before playing against Union Saint-Gilloise (in the Champions League) and Nottingham Forest (in the Premier League) at the start of October.
Newcastle have just one other player injured
Wissa is not the only new addition who is currently on the treatment table. Jacob Ramsey was signed from Aston Villa for an initial £39m last month but he has already been ruled out of contention with an ankle injury.
The midfielder made his first appearance as a substitute against Liverpool before starting against Leeds. However, he was forced off the pitch after just 45 minutes at Elland Road.
Ramsey is expected to spend the same length of time on the sidelines as Wissa. Both players could return to action against Brighton at the Amex on October 18th.
