Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing former Leeds United winger, Raphinha, from his current club of Barcelona [via Mundo Deportivo].
According to Mundo Deportivo, Raphinha is struggling for game time at Barcelona. His preferred position, on the right wing, is generally taken up by Ousmane Dembélé.
As such, the Catalonian giants may be willing to part company with the Brazilian trickster. If this proves to be the case, Newcastle could be the ones to secure his signature.
The Toon are not struggling for quality players on either wing – Miguel Almiron has been brilliant this season, while Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin have also enjoyed modestly successful campaigns.
Nevertheless, Raphinha is a top talent and would likely have little trouble breaking into the Magpies’ squad. Aged 26, his best years are arguably still ahead of him.
This season, Raphinha has scored six goals and has notched up five assists in La Liga. This isn’t a bad return by any means, but a club of Barcelona’s stature will expect more than this.
A move to St. James’ Park could be a good move for the Brazilian. He has had success in the Premier League previously – while at Leeds, he scored 17 goals across 65 appearances in England’s top flight.
