Newcastle United Reportedly Interested In Relegated Midfielder For Transfer

Newcastle United are believed to be interested in a transfer for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, according to a report from The Athletic.

In The Athletic’s piece, a slew of Toon transfer targets are named – some realistic, some not. However, Adams certainly falls within the ‘realistic’ bracket, given Leeds’ current situation.

While Newcastle’s interest in the player seems apparent, it must be stressed that no offers have been officially tabled at the time of writing.

Who else, besides Newcastle, is interested in Tyler Adams?

Newcastle United may have an interest in Adams’ services, but they are far from the only club who are believed to be in the race for the American midfield metronome.

Both Manchester United and moneybags club Nottingham Forest are thought to be interested in a move for Adams – should Newcastle wish to bring him to St. James’ Park, they will need to beat their Premier League rivals to the punch.

Tyler Adams career summary

Adams’ youth career began in 2012, when he joined the academy of the New York Red Bulls at the age of 13. He would join his first senior contract in 2015, before moving to German giants RB Leipzig in 2019.

At Leipzig, Adams quickly established himself as a top-quality midfielder on the European stage. He went on to make 75 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, scoring a single goal in those games.

Adams was then snapped up by Leeds United for a reported fee of £20 million. He was brought into replace star midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who made the jump to Manchester City in the summer of 2022. For all his effort, Adams could not save the Whites from relegation to the Championship.

He has also been called up on several occasions to the USMNT. In total, Adams has 36 USA caps to his name, alongside a solitary international goal.
