Arsenal And Spurs ‘Approached’ By Agents As £50M Rated Newcastle Target Presses For Summer Transfer

The representatives of Newcastle transfer target Adeomola Lookman have “approached” Arsenal and Tottenham about signing the Nigerian international at the end of the season, according to reports.

After the attacking midfielder’s falling out with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini, his agents have been speaking to interested clubs and TBRFootball claim that the two North London rivals are the latest to be given a chance to sign the player.

Newcastle, Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham are also believed to be aware of Lookman’s availability, although it isn’t clear at the moment who is the favourite to secure his signature.

A return to England does look like a distinct possibility for the 27-year-old, who was born in London before coming through Charlton’s academy.

How much would Lookman cost?

Reports in the Italian media suggest that Atlanta are holding out for a fee in the region of €60m (£50m). Considering that he has scored 17 goals and provided 7 assists in 30 appearances so far this campaign, the Italian club may feel that it is a fair valuation.

However, with the relationship between Lookman and his manager said to be beyond repair, they may have to lower their asking price.

Newcastle may not see him as a top target

Although Lookman is undoubtedly an excellent player, the fact that he prefers to play as a support striker means he may not be a priority for head coach Eddie Howe.

The Magpies do need to replace Callum Wilson but they would prefer to recruit a like-for-like alternative for the forward. The club are also hoping to sign a right winger, so you can’t see a deal for Lookman getting a green light before that position is filled either.

Any move for the Nigerian would probably only happen if his reported price tag is reduced significantly.
