The agent of Newcastle United transfer target Alex Toth has confirmed that the player could leave Ferencvaros in January or the summer “at the very latest”.
The Magpies, along with Liverpool, Brighton and several teams on the continent, have been linked with signing the Hungarian international over the past week, and asked about the speculation, Bence Papp said:
“The international press is also interested in the possible transfer of Alex. He has since been mentioned among the midfielders with the greatest potential, showing his abilities at international level both in Ferencvaros and in the national team. Perhaps no young Hungarian player playing in Hungary has ever been talked about as much as he is now.”
“This is clearly to his and Ferencvaros’ credit. Naturally, I do not want to comment on the rumours, but I can tell you that it is worth monitoring his situation. Due to the dynamics of the market, I can’t say whether he will change clubs this winter or next summer.”
“We’re not giving away anything if we say that this will happen in the summer at the latest. I can make that statement, because there is an interest in him that I don’t think has been seen in the last 10 years around a young Hungarian player playing in Hungary. This transfer – which could take place in the summer at the latest – will fundamentally change the perception of Hungarian football on the international market.”
The Newcastle target has been compared to Hungary’s captain
Toth is a central midfielder, and he has already been capped 9 times at senior level despite only turning 20 back in October.
Unsurprisingly, due to the position he plays and the fact that he’s Hungarian, many have likened him to Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai, who captains his country.
Toth’s asking price has been set
It is believed that Ferencvaros are demanding a fee in between €8m (£7m) and €15m (£13.5m), which is not a huge amount of money.
Newcastle won’t have any trouble matching Toth’s valuation, but they will still have to beat a whole host of clubs to secure his signature in the New Year.
