Newcastle United Get Positive Update On Player’s ‘Release Clause’ As Ross Wilson Plans ‘Fresh Talks’

Bruno Guimaraes’s representatives have indicated that the player is willing to dispense with a “release clause” if he signs a new contract with Newcastle United, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that sporting director Ross Wilson is expected to hold “fresh talks” with the Brazilian international over extending his stay beyond his current deal that expires in 2028.

The last contract included a clause that could be triggered in June 2024, in which clubs could sign Guimaraes for £100m.

No team was willing to pay the requisite fee at the time, and the midfielder remained at St James’ Park.

Guimaraes does have other suitors

Manchester City are long-term admirers of the 28-year-old, and it is believed that they still retain an interest in the player.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also reportedly fans of Guimaraes, but if the Magpies captain does sign an extension with no buyout fee, it would suggest that he is keen to stay in the North East for the remainder of his career.

Another first-team player has extended his stay at Newcastle

It was announced yesterday that centre-back Sven Botman has signed on the dotted line to keep him with the Magpies until the summer of 2030.

There had been increasing uncertainty surrounding the Dutchman’s future. He had reached the final 18 months of his contract, and his poor injury record had led to speculation that Eddie Howe’s side would consider selling up. However, Botman has now committed his long-term future.

In addition to working on deals for Botman and Guimaraes, Wilson will be keen to lock down Tino Livramento too. Both Manchester City and Arsenal have been circling the fullback in recent months. As things stand, the player is not close to putting pen to paper.
