Newcastle ‘Ready To Do Battle’ For Chelsea 1st Team Regular Who Could Be Forced Out At The End Of The Season

Newcastle are one of three teams keeping close tabs on Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, according to reports.

The Sun claim that the Blues are looking to strengthen their options up front, and the Senegalese international could be offloaded as a consequence.

Jackson has been the London club’s first-choice No.9 for the last two seasons, having scored 26 goals in 68 appearances during that period.

Despite averaging a goal every 2.6 games, it does appear as if Chelsea are seeking an upgrade.

Newcastle will have competition

The Sun report that Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa are also interested in the 23-year-old but the Magpies are “ready to do battle” for the forward if he becomes available.

Jackson is currently out injured, having picked up a hamstring problem during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over West Ham last week, but he is expected to play again before the end of the campaign, with his comeback pencilled in for the beginning of April.

Head coach Enzo Maresca has expressed how important the player is to his team, stating they will find it hard to cope without Jackson, but it looks like those above Maresca at the club are not as committed to keeping the Senegalese star.

A lot will depend on Isak’s future

It seems Jackson is a contingency plan if Eddie Howe’s side fail to keep hold of Alexander Isak. There is a lot of interest in the Swedish international, with Arsenal very keen on securing his services.

However, Newcastle won’t let the striker leave unless a team meets their valuation. Previous reports have suggested that the club would only consider a sale if they receive an offer in the region of £150m. The high asking price will put off most clubs so there may be no need to make a move for Jackson.
