£67M Striker ‘In Newcastle’s Sights’ As They Look To Secure Arsenal Target For Bargain Price Amid Contract Dispute

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is “in Newcastle’s sights” ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Serbian international is nearing the final year of his contract and Juve are not willing to renew his deal on his current salary.

Tuttosport claim that the Magpies could be one of the teams looking to take advantage of the situation with the Bianconeri not prepared to lose Vlahovic on a free transfer next year.

The forward cost £67m when he first arrived from Fiorentina during the 2022 January transfer window, but he could be available for a lot less than that now.

Why are Newcastle interested in the forward?

It is believed that Eddie Howe’s side are looking to reinforce their frontline if they qualify for the Champions League. Alexander Isak won’t have much competition if Callum Wilson leaves when his contract expires at the end of June.

The inexperienced William Osula would have to step up to the plate so, in that context, it is understandable why sporting director Paul Mitchell is eyeing a move for Vlahovic, especially as he could be signed for a reasonable price.

Other Premier League clubs have looked at Vlahovic

Arsenal hold a longstanding interest in the 25-year-old, having tried to sign him at the same time as Juventus. Tuttosport report that the Gunners have kept tabs on him, while Manchester United have been mentioned as another possible suitor.

Based on stories in the UK, though, both of those teams have prioritised moves for other strikers. Arsenal are hoping to snap up Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres while United are keen to secure the signature of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. It means that Newcastle could get a free run at Vlahovic.
