Newcastle Are The ‘Latest Club’ To Make Approach For Soon-To-Be Free Agent Amid Arsenal, Chelsea And City Interest

Newcastle United have become the “latest club” to register their interest in Lille striker Jonathan David, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that the Magpies are keen on recruiting the Canadian, who will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

David has scored 23 goals in all competitions so it is not surprising that the forward is being looked at by Eddie Howe’s side.

Of course, there is plenty of other suitors weighing up a move for the 25-year-old too, including several other Premier League teams.

It is believed that the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are also big fans of the player, although TEAMtalk emphasise that David has not received a “concrete” contract proposal from any club yet, including Newcastle.

Is he a replacement for Isak or Wilson?

There is a lot of speculation about Alexander Isak’s future at the moment, with Liverpool and Arsenal having reportedly made the Swedish international a priority target for the summer transfer window.

However, Newcastle’s interest in David may not necessarily be about finding a replacement for the club’s current first-choice No.9.

Callum Wilson is expected to leave St James’ Park when his contract expires at the end of June so the Magpies will be looking to replace the England international.

Newcastle also have competition for David from 2 European heavyweights

Serie A champions Inter Milan are thought to be working hard on securing the striker’s signature, while Barcelona are in the mix as well.

The La Liga leaders may have the edge over other teams with David having recently expressed that he is keen on playing in Spain but Barca’s financial situation means they may not be able to offer him a contract.
