Newcastle could make “another signing over the weekend” after leaving the No.9 jersey free, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.
The journalist is extremely reliable when it comes to the Magpies, and writing on his X account, he suggested the decision to hand Nick Woltemade the no.27 indicates that Eddie Howe’s side are plotting a move for a second striker.
Woltemade is set to complete his £69m transfer from Stuttgart imminently, although he isn’t expected to be registered in time for the match against Leeds.
Despite the huge outlay on the German international, the club are said to be looking at bringing in one more forward.
Who are Newcastle targeting?
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa remains a live target. The Bees have reportedly tabled a £45m offer for Borussia Dortmund’s Max Beier.
The 22-year-old’s arrival could pave the way for Wissa’s exit ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday evening.
Another attempt could also be made for Jorgen Strand Larsen. Despite having several bids knocked back, the Magpies could yet make a fresh offer if they get encouragement from Wolves. The Norwegian is set to be left out of the squad for their match against Everton this weekend, with the player having asked to leave Molineux.
