Newcastle and Man United have been linked to a Barcelona player, who has said he wants to stay at the Nou Camp.
Eddie Howe will be pleased with how his side have been able to develop on their slow start to the season, as they are coming out of the international break looking to make it three wins in a row in all competitions this weekend.
They face a tough Brighton side, but Newcastle have some players in seriously good form. Striker Nick Woltemade is one such player; he scored for Germany over the international break to take his tally this season up to five goals in all competitions.
Nick Pope has also been in good form in the early part of the season, keeping Aaron Ramsdale on the bench. However, despite that, Newcastle have been linked to signing another goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
Ter Stegen snubs Newcastle and Man Utd interest
Both Newcastle and Man United have been linked to signing Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who has lost his starting job at the Nou Camp to summer signing Joan Garcia.
It was believed by many that the 33-year-old would leave Barcelona after losing his spot, and both Newcastle and Man United were understood to be keen to bring the six-time La Liga winner to the Premier League.
However, according to a report by Spanish news outlet AS, Ter Stegen wants to fight for his job at Barcelona rather than move in the January transfer window. He recently became available again after a lower-back injury, but seems to be prepared to sacrifice game time to stay in the Catalan City.
Do the Magpies need another goalkeeper?
Newcastle lost Martin Dubravka in the summer transfer window, as he went to join fellow Premier League side Burnley in favour of more regular game time than he had at St James’ Park.
The Magpies were keen to sign James Trafford, but he joined Manchester City, so they instead signed Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton after they were relegated last year.
However, if Newcastle were to add another keeper, there is no guarantee that they would get game time either as Nick Pope has been solid at the back for the Magpies, and there is no reason as to why Howe should replace him moving forward.
