Newcastle Have Been ‘Offered’ La Liga Giant’s No.1 Keeper But So Have 4 Other Premier League Clubs

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been “offered” to Newcastle by those representing the German international, according to reports.

The shot-stopper is expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer, with his position as No.1 set to come under threat from Joan Garcia.

Barca will complete the signing of the 24-year-old from Espanyol for €25m (£21m) very soon and he is likely to be first choice next season.

With that being the case, TBRFootball claim that ter Stegen’s representatives have been exploring their options, with the Magpies among the five Premier League clubs to be contacted over the past week.

Who are the other teams that have been offered ter Stegen?

It is believed that Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa have also been informed of the German’s availability.

All four are said to be looking for a new No.1. Andre Onana and Robert Sanchez are not deemed good enough by their respective clubs, while both Ederson and Emi Martinez are set to leave for fresh challenges.

Newcastle have prioritised a move for another goalkeeper

While supporters will be happy to see a keeper of ter Stegen’s quality being linked with a switch to St James’ Park, Eddie Howe’s side have set their sights on a different target.

New reports suggest that the Magpies have renewed their interest in Burnley no.1 James Trafford. After failing to secure the 22-year-old’s last summer (much to the player’s disappointment), it looks as though a fresh bid will be made.

However, after performing so well for the Clarets in the Championship last season, he is unlikely to be available for a low fee. A bid of £30m or more may be required to secure his services.
