Don Hutchinson believes the signing of West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus would “elevate” Newcastle’s attack.
The Magpies have been looking for a new right winger for several transfer windows and, speaking to goldenpanda.com, Hutchinson said that Kudus would be the best signing among the options under consideration:
“I mean, right side has always been an area where they can improve on, but then Jacob Murphy’s had one of the best seasons he’s ever had. Noni Madueke is a player that Newcastle like from Chelsea.”
“Jarrod Bowen is another. Liverpool have liked for quite a while, but I think he’s probably going to stay at West Ham for life. He probably seems like a lifer to me, but I think Kudus seems to be the player where you think he’s the one that can really go and elevate a team.”
Kudus is effectively up for sale
After an underwhelming second season at the London Stadium, the Ghanaian international is expected to be on the move this summer, with the Hammers needing to raise funds for their own transfer business.
Kudus does have a release clause worth £85m for Premier League clubs but there is a feeling that he will be sold for a fee below that figure if no bids from Saudi Arabia are received.
Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with the player, along with Newcastle, in recent months but his goal return of just 4 goals in 31 appearances suggests they may look elsewhere to strengthen their forward line.
Should Newcastle look at alternatives?
Based on Kudus’s recent performances, Eddie Howe’s side may be better off pursuing other targets. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo would be a good option. The Cameroon international has scored 18 times in the Premier League this campaign.
Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is also said to be on the club’s radar, along with the likes of Southampton’s Tyler Dibling and Como’s Assane Diao.
