Newcastle United are tracking the progress of Dinamo Zagreb right-back Noa Mikic, according to reports in the German media.

Fussball-news.de claim that the Magpies have been “following” the Croatian youth international, but they are just one of 5 teams keen on securing the player’s signature.

Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are expected to be Matthias Jaissle’s side’s main competition, having kept very close tabs on Mikic in recent weeks.

There are suggestions that they could make a move for the teenager during the January transfer window, although Dinamo Zagreb are in no rush to offload one of their most talented young players.

Which other clubs are pursuing Mikic?

It is believed that Brentford, as well as newly-promoted Premier League sides Hull City and Ipswich Town, have taken a look at the fullback.

Dinamo Zagreb have reportedly not received any concrete offer from any of the teams hoping to land Mikic, but that could well change over the coming weeks and months.

What do Newcastle fans need to know about the player?

Mikic left NK Varazdin’s youth system at the age of 7 to join Dinamo Zagreb’s academy in the summer of 2014.

Since then, the defender has made his way up the ranks, making appearances for their Under-17s and Under-19s. He played four games in the UEFA Youth League during the 2024/25 season.

In the same campaign, Mikic made his first-team debut, coming on as a substitute during a league game against HNK Gorica in August 2024.

A few months later, he made his first start for Dinamo Zagreb, coincidentally against his former team, NK Varazdin. He also made two appearances for his club in the Europa League against Lille and Real Betis in the space of a couple of weeks.

Mikic hasn’t really played a lot of football since that run in the team a couple of years ago, having played 10 first-team matches in total.
