Newcastle And Manchester United Have Both Identified World Cup Finalist As ‘Priority Target’ – Report

Newcastle have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, according to reports in France.

The 26-year-old, who played in the 2022 World Cup final, has returned to PSG after a six-month loan spell with Juventus.

Muani has previously expressed a desire to stay at Juve but it doesn’t appear the feeling is mutual, with the Serie A side having not returned with an offer to sign him on a permanent basis.

It means the France international’s future remains firmly up in the air, and Foot Mercato claim that both the Magpies and Man United have made him a “priority target.”

Newcastle have identified him as an alternative to Ekitike

Both Premier League teams are said to have held a strong interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, with the Magpies having had one formal bid rejected for the striker.

However, the 23-year-old is now expected to join Liverpool, with the player on Merseyside to complete a medical.

Muani seems to have been identified as an alternative. He has been linked with a switch to St James’ Park before, with reports in November suggesting that the striker could join Newcastle on loan. He ultimately ended up in Italy instead.

Muani’s record in recent seasons

Head coach Eddie Howe is looking to add more firepower up front following Callum Wilson’s departure on a free transfer.

It must be said that Muani did struggle to find the back of the net on a consistent basis during his first 18 months with PSG, scoring 11 goals in 54 appearances.

Things improved after he made the switch to Juventus at the start of 2025. He averaged a goal every 2.2 games for the Bianconeri.
