Newcastle United transfer target Ruben Neves may still stay at Al-Hilal after the Saudi Pro League club offered him a fresh contract.
The Portuguese international has already rejected several proposals to extend his time in the Middle East, but talkSPORT claim he is “considering the latest offer”.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Neves in recent days, with multiple reports suggesting that the former Wolves player could return to the Premier League.
In addition to the Magpies, both Manchester United and Leeds have been linked with the midfielder, who could be sold for £15m in January if he doesn’t sign an extension.
Could Newcastle revive their interest?
Neves was targeted by Eddie Howe’s side not long after he left England for Al-Hilal in the summer of 2023.
It is believed that an attempt was made to sign the 28-year-old on an initial loan deal midway through the 2023/24 campaign.
A move ultimately didn’t transpire, with Neves having now stayed in Saudi Arabia for a further two years.
Why have the Neves links resurfaced?
The midfielder’s contract with Al-Hilal expires at the end of the season, so his future is a big talking point.
It should also be pointed out that Newcastle have a player who has been linked with a transfer in the other direction. Joelinton is said to be attracting interest from Saudi clubs.
At the moment, there is no indication that the Brazilian international will be let go, but it can’t be a coincidence that Neves’s name has cropped up again at the same time as Joelinton’s future has been called into question.
With Neves now seemingly weighing up another lucrative offer to stay where he is, it may mean that nothing comes of these links anyway. It is a situation to keep a close eye on.
