Newcastle United could be forced to sell midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer amid interest in him from Man City, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Tonali signed for the Magpies in 2023 for a fee of £50m, and since then he has been one of their best players, showing himself to be a world-class midfielder under Eddie Howe.
The Italy international has made 52 appearances for Newcastle, scoring six goals and providing just three assists. However, his impact is in midfield, both winning the ball and being able to retain possession better than most in the Premier League.
He is under contract at St James’ Park for another three years, with his deal expiring in June 2028, however, he could see a move this summer after reports by Caught Offside suggested that clubs are keeping an eye on him, and more importantly, that Tonali is open to leaving Newcastle.
The reports say that there are a group of top European clubs monitoring Tonali, with the most interested being Juventus, Manchester City and Real Madrid. The Magpies would reportedly not be willing to sell Tonali for less than £68m, which would hand them an £18m profit on the 24-year-old.
Who could Newcastle replace Tonali with?
If Tonali does leave St James’ Park, the Magpies would need to add more reinforcements in midfield in order to fill the void left by the 24-year-old.
One midfielder that they have been linked to is Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who has also been a reported target of Man United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Eze is more attacking than Tonali, but still excels in Tonali’s biggest strength, which is retention of the ball in midfield. The Eagles’ midfielder has made 29 Premier League appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing eight assists.
