Newcastle are stepping up plans to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, according to the Northern Echo.
The local newspaper claims that the Magpies are “ready” to table a “club record” bid for the France international ahead of the summer transfer window.
Diaby is believed to be valued at €100m (£88m) by Leverkusen but Eddie Howe’s side will be hoping to negotiate down the price when they enter formal talks with the Bundesliga club.
It is believed that initial discussions about a deal were held last year but an agreement over a transfer fee could not be reached. It remains to be seen if they will be more successful second time around.
Other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, have been linked with Diaby but Newcastle look to be firm favourites for the player’s signature at the moment.
The 23-year-old is being eyed as potential competition for Miguel Almiron. The Paraguayan has been in excellent form this season but the feeling is that the right flank does need to be strengthened further.
