Newcastle United are believed to be interested in signing young midfielder Arda Güler from Fenerbahce, according to an article by Turkish media outlet Ajansspor.

The Toon are believed to have made contact with Guler’s family – though no official talks have taken place, preliminary discussions are alleged to be ongoing.

Should Newcastle land a deal for Guler, they will need to pay Fenerbahce no less than £17.5 million. Given the Magpies’ financial resources, this would be a mere drop in the ocean.

However, Newcastle aren’t the only club who are thought to have registered an interested in acquiring the 18-year-old’s services. According to reports, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Barcelona are also looking closely at him with a potential transfer in mind.

Despite his young age, Guler has already caught the eye of Turkey’s national team setup – he has won two senior caps for his country, with many more on the horizon.

In the current season, Guler has made 17 appearances for Fenerbahce. In those games, the midfield starlet has scored four goals, alongside a pair of assists in the Turkish Super League.

Should Newcastle snap up the youngster, it would be another instance of the Magpies signing a lesser-known, yet promising, talent from abroad. Can they seal the deal?
