Newcastle have “checked” on the progress of Pyramids winger Ibrahim Adel, according to TEAMtalk.

The website claims that five other Premier League teams, including Chelsea, West Ham, Brighton, Aston Villa and Burnley have also been scouting the 22-year-old, while Scottish side Rangers did make a formal approach earlier this summer.

Adel still plays in his home country Egypt, but he has caught the eye when playing for his national team. His teammate Mo Salah is known to be a big fan. Speaking to the Talking Transfers podcast back in July, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that the Liverpool star had even suggested that the Reds sign him:

“He’s a player we have spoken about before. Mo Salah recommended him to Liverpool. He is one of the best young players in African football and has been for a little while. He plays for Pyramids in Egypt, Mo Salah does like him and he recommended him to Liverpool.”

Whether Newcastle are actively pursuing Adel, it isn’t known. He prefers to play off the left wing and Magpies boss Eddie Howe already has the likes of Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon to play in that position.

Adel could be off to Russia

There is a danger that Newcastle and other Premier League teams could miss out on the Egyptian international.

The English transfer window may be closed but teams in Russia can still sign players until tomorrow (September 14th) so he could leave Pyramids before then.

Newcastle have recently snapped up another young player

It was announced a few days ago that England Under 16 international Trevan Sanusi had joined the club from Birmingham City.

The winger is believed to have snubbed interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to make the switch to St James’ Park, with the Magpies recruiting some of the best young talent in the country.
