REPORT: Newcastle Told To Make ‘Monster Offer’ For Liverpool And Arsenal Target As Initial ‘Approach’ Is Rebuffed

Newcastle have made an “approach” to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo this month, according to reports.

The Magpies are believed to have enquired about the Cameroon international’s availability but The Mirror claim that Brentford told them in no uncertain terms that it would take a “monster offer” for them to be tempted into selling the player.

It has been suggested that the Bees will hold out for a fee in the region of £60m, which is not a price that Eddie Howe’s side are willing to pay, especially during the January transfer window.

However, The Mirror do say that it is a deal that the club could revisit at the end of the season.

Newcastle will face competition from Premier League rivals

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are also reportedly big admirers of Mbeumo. The Reds may soon be looking to replace Mo Salah, who could leave Anfield when his contract expires in June.

The Gunners, on the other hand, are keen to take some of the burden off Bukayo Saka, who is currently sidelined with a serious hamstring injury.

Mbeumo could form a deadly front three

The Magpies are said to be keen to ease the pressure on Alexander Isak to score the baulk of their goals. The Swedish international has found the back of the net 17 times in the league.

Mbeumo is not far behind Isak, having scored 14, and combined with Anthony Gordon on the opposite flank, the trio could form a very threatening forward line.

It is understandable why Newcastle were hoping to get the deal done this month to help them capitalise on their excellent recent form that has catapulted them into contention for a top 4 finish. However, it appears Mbeumo is out of the club’s reach, for this month at least.
