Newcastle striker Alexander Isak says he isn’t looking to leave St James’ Park this summer.
There has been constant talk that Arsenal are interested in signing the Swedish international but, speaking about his future, the forward insisted that he is only thinking about the Magpies:
“I am enjoying myself at Newcastle, and I had the best season in my career – that should not be underestimated I love everything about the club; the fans, and the city. It (my future) is not something I will speculate about, I have no thoughts on leaving.”
One of the reasons why Isak has been consistently linked with a move away from the club is due to Newcastle’s need to balance the books. To stay within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, a significant sale is required but Isak has said nobody has told him that he is available for transfer:
“There has been no talk about it at the club and I have received no information that they would have to sell me.”
Newcastle are keen to keep Isak
Despite the speculation, most local journalists and sources have consistently stated that Eddie Howe’s side were not looking to offload the 24-year-old. There were even some suggestions that the club would only consider offers in the region of £180m.
After scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances last season, it is not hard to see why the Magpies are so keen to keep hold of him.
There are still doubts over another star’s future
While it seems certain that Isak will be staying, there is no such clarity with his teammate Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian’s £100m release clause is currently active.
Fans will just have to hope that no team contemplates triggering it before it expires in the final week of June.
