Eddie Howe Is A ‘Big Fan’ Of Ex-Manchester City Star With Newcastle And Arsenal Both ‘Considering’ £25M Bids

Newcastle and Arsenal are interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, according to Caught Offside.

The website claims that Magpies boss Eddie Howe is a “big fan” of the former Manchester City player and he would be interested in bringing him to St James’ Park.

Sane is in the final year of his contract at Bayern and, while the German is said to be keen on staying at the Allianz Arena, negotiations over an extension have not gone smoothly.

Bayern want the 28-year-old to take a pay cut, which is not something the player is willing to accept at the moment. It means a sale during the January transfer window could be considered to prevent him from leaving for nothing next summer.

Newcastle and Arsenal could table bids

Caught Offside report that the two Premier League teams are seriously “considering making offers” in the region of €30m (£25m) for Sane.

However, Bayern are unlikely to accept a fee below €40m (£34m) so a compromise may need to be found before a move can take place. Of course, if Sane doesn’t sign a new deal, he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club at the start of next year anyway.

The interest in Sane does make sense

It is widely known that Howe wants to improve his options on the right flank. The club even entered talks to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace before the Frenchman decided to join Bayern instead.

Whether Sane is a realistic target, though, it is up for debate. His salary will be a major obstacle. Newcastle’s highest earner is Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian takes home £160,000 a week.

According to Capology, Sane is currently earning around £323,500 a week at Bayern, which is double what Guimaraes is getting.
