Brentford want £50m for Newcastle transfer target Bryan Mbeumo, according to talkSPORT.
It was revealed earlier this week that the Magpies are hoping to secure the Cameroon international’s services during the January transfer window.
Mbeumo has been in outstanding form at the beginning of this campaign, having racked up 8 goals in his first 9 Premier League appearances.
There was hope that Brentford would sanction the forward’s sale for a lower amount as he is reaching the final 18 months of his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.
However, talkSPORT claim the Bees have the option to extend Mbeumo’s stay for another year until 2027 so they are under no pressure to sell him.
Newcastle face competition from rival Premier League teams
It has also been revealed that Eddie Howe’s team are not the only club looking to snap up Mbeumo, with both Liverpool and Arsenal keeping an eye on his performances.
The Reds could lose Mohamed Salah on a free transfer at the end of the season so they are looking at potential replacements, while the Gunners want to take some of the workload off Bukayo Saka.
Mbeumo would be a perfect fit for the right flank
The Magpies have been looking to strengthen their options on the right wing for several transfer windows. They have been keen to find an upgrade for Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy. The former was reportedly offered to Saudi Arabian teams in the summer.
Anthony Gordon has also been deployed down that flank but the England international is much more effective on the left-hand side.
Mbeumo prefers to play on the right, cutting in onto his stronger left foot. He is also a goal threat, as demonstrated by his contributions this season. It remains to be seen, though, whether Newcastle have the £50m needed to sign him.
