The “uncertainty” surrounding Eddie Howe’s future at Newcastle could prompt Bruno Guimaraes’s departure from the club, according to GiveMeSport.
Howe has been heavily linked with replacing Gareth Southgate as England boss and it is believed that Guimaraes would be more inclined to consider offers from other teams if the manager situation isn’t resolved soon.
The Magpies are thought to be increasingly fearful that the midfielder will push for a move away from St James’ Park, even though his £100m release clause expired at the end of last month.
Despite being happy in the North East, the 26-year-old is keen on playing in the Champions League and he wants to be winning trophies on a regular basis.
City are still interested in Guimaraes
It was reported by The Athletic earlier this week that the Premier League champions haven’t given up on signing the Brazilian international this summer despite deciding against paying his buyout fee.
Even so, the Cityzens would only be prepared to do a deal if Guimaraes’s price tag is lowered, which is not something you can see the Magpies doing.
Newcastle won’t have to fend off interest from any other clubs
It doesn’t appear any other teams will make a move for the midfielder at this stage, with the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain having seemingly cooled their interest in Guimaraes.
The Gunners are said to be pursuing cheaper options, with a former Newcastle player, Mikel Merino, reportedly one of their top targets. The 28-year-old has less than a year left on his contract at Real Sociedad.
PSG, meanwhile, are currently focused on signing Joao Neves. The 19-year-old is likely to cost just as much as Guimaraes with his club Benfica believed to be holding out for his €120m (£101m) release clause.
