There is no “special release clause” that would allow Barcelona to sign Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
It has been suggested that Guimaraes has a Barca specific clause that means the La Liga champions could buy him for only £60m but Romano has emphatically denied those rumours:
🚨⚪️⚫️ Understand there’s no specific release clause for Barcelona or any specific club into Bruno Guimarães new deal at Newcastle.
The only clause is valid for all the clubs and it’s £100m, as revealed in September. No other clauses, sources confirm. pic.twitter.com/f5i7bTejtF

Speculation about a “secret” clause, which only one team could trigger, did seem very bizarre and Romano has now put to bed any suggestions that Guimaraes will leave for a fee below the aforementioned £100m.
Guimaraes is “happy” at St James’ Park
When the 25-year-old signed his new six-year contract just over a week ago, the midfielder seemed absolutely committed to staying with the Magpies for the long term:
“I’m absolutely delighted. The fans have made me feel at home since my first day here and I feel so loved in my life. ‘I’m so happy here. It’s a place that is so comfortable to be and I hope to keep making the supporters happy and helping the team do well. That’s my goal, because there are no words to describe how happy I am to be here.”
Newcastle will need to keep performing well to ward off suitors
It is known that both Liverpool and Chelsea, in addition to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, have expressed interest in the Brazilian international previously, and the existence of the £100m buyout fee may tempt one of them to splash the cash at some point.
Even so, if the Magpies do keep improving as the club and start challenging for honours on a regular basis, you can’t see Guimaraes considering a move away from the club.
