Sky Journalist Reveals “Talks Are Ongoing” As Newcastle Battle Chelsea And Villa For £19M Rated Teenage Sensation

Newcastle are one of three Premier League teams interested in signing PAOK Salonika striker Stefanos Tzimas, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The Greek Under 21 international is currently on loan at Bundesliga 2 side Nurnberg but the German club have a €18m (£14.9m) option to buy the teenager.

Plettenberg says that “talks are ongoing” regarding a permanent switch, although it is believed that Nurnberg intend to sell Tzimas almost straight away.

The journalist claims that they arehoping to make a profit of around €3m (£2.5m) to €5m (£4.1m) which means that the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa would only have to pay a maximum of €23m (£19m).

What do fans need to know about Tzimas?

The forward made his senior debut for PAOK in the last 16 of the Greek Cup at the start of 2023. He played the last 20 minutes of the second-leg victory against PS Kalamata.

Tzimas subsequently made 29 more appearances, scoring 5 goals over the next 18 months, prior to his loan to Nurnberg.

After moving to Germany last summer, Tzimas has been in the goals, having hit the back of the net 7 times in 14 appearances so far.

Newcastle do need to freshen up their forward line

With Callum Wilson likely to leave St James’ Park when his contract expires at the end of the season, the Magpies will be in the market for a replacement.

The likes of Bologna’s Santiago Castro and Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani have also been mentioned as potential targets.

It is not known where Tzimas would figure on the club’s shortlist but Sporting Director Paul Mitchell is keen to bring in young talent from the continent. He knows the German market very well, having worked for RB Leipzig between 2018 and 2019.
