REPORT: Newcastle Could ‘Test The Water’ With £65M Raid For 2nd Palace Star If They Lose Gordon To Liverpool

Newcastle are interested in signing Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, according to I News.

The Magpies are currently in talks to buy his Eagles teammate Marc Guehi but a move for Eze is also reportedly under consideration, with an enquiry to “test the water” not ruled out.

There is still uncertainty surrounding the future of Anthony Gordon. Talks were held with Liverpool earlier this summer before a transfer fell through.

Newcastle want to keep hold of the winger and they are keen to begin discussions over a new contract. However, if negotiations don’t progress, there is a feeling that the club may yet consider a sale.

With Gordon having less than two years left on his current deal, his value will only depreciate in subsequent transfer windows so the optimal time to offload him is now.

Eze is expected to cost £65m

Reports suggest that Newcastle would want at least £75m for Gordon and that would be more than enough money to fund a bid for his replacement.

Eze is believed to have a release clause in the region of £65m in his contract, making any transfer easier to finalise. However, the 25-year-old does have other suitors. The England international has been linked with Manchester City, with the Premier League champions keen on recruiting a player to fill the gap left by Julian Alvarez. Arsenal have also been credited with an interest.

Newcastle have their eye on 2 West Ham players

I News claim Eze is not the only player being looked at as a potential option if Gordon is sold. West Ham pair Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus could be targeted too.

Neither player would be available on the cheap, though. Kudus does have a release clause, like Eze, but it is believed to be £85m and it only becomes active next summer.
