‘Very Interested’ – Report Claims Newcastle And 2 PL Rivals Are Pursuing £25M Rated Fullback Who Lit Up Euro 2024

Newcastle are “very interested” in signing Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu, according to Calciomercato.it.

The Italian website claims that Juventus have been trying to negotiate a swap deal which would see Weston McKennie moving in the other direction.

However, Fenerbahce value Kadioglu at a higher amount than the American international, and they are not willing to let the fullback leave for less than €30m (£25m).

This will consequently allow Premier League clubs, including the Magpies, to enter the race for the player.

What do fans need to know about Kadioglu?

The 24-year-old was actually born in the Netherlands but he is of Turkish descent and he moved to Fenerbahce in the summer of 2018.

Kadioglu started his career as an attacking midfielder but, over the last few years, he has morphed into an inverted fullback, leading to clubs like Arsenal taking a look at him.

His performances at the European Championships with Turkey have, though, gained him more admirers, and a transfer this summer is a distinct possibility.

Do Newcastle need another left-back?

After signing Lewis Hall from Chelsea on a permanent basis for £28m, you wouldn’t have thought that signing another player for the same position would be a priority for manager Eddie Howe.

You could argue that, due to the long-term injuries suffered by Sven Botman and captain Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn will be used more often in the middle of defence next season, leaving the club light of options on that flank.

However, when you consider that Tino Livramento can also provide cover on the left-hand side, there is no urgent need to bring in reinforcements, especially if it will cost £25m. Those funds could be better spent on other areas of the pitch, such as centre-back or on the right wing.
