“Potential Stumbling Block” – Jordan Cronin Provides Latest Update As Newcastle Look To Snap Up £65M Rated Defender

Newcastle may find it difficult agreeing a fee with Crystal Palace defender for Marc Guehi, according to NewcastleWorld reporter Jordan Cronin.

Speaking on the Geordie Journos show on Shots!, Cronin said that Palace’s £65m asking price is still a major hurdle for the Magpies to overcome:

“That’s one thing I would say about this deal – Newcastle are in talks with Crystal Palace over Guehi – but they will have to pay top dollar to get him in, and the price tag doing the rounds is £65m. Obviously, that is a lot of money and a potential stumbling block in my opinion but he is a player clearly really well-liked, has been for a while I think, even when he was at Chelsea, there were some links to Marc Guehi around that time. His stock hasn’t really been higher after the Euros.”

Cronin claims that other Premier League clubs are likely to be interested in Guehi so it will be up to Newcastle, not only to agree a fee with Palace, but also to persuade the player:

“As we understand as well, other clubs are interested so as much as it’s encouraging that Newcastle have made the first move for Guehi, I do think there will be a few twists and turns before that deal is agreed. Will they agree that deal? Time will tell but clearly there is a ‘want’ to get him in and that will be dictated by a) finances and b) if the player wants the move to Newcastle because other clubs may indeed come in.”

Who are the other clubs interested in Guehi?

It is believed that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in signing the England international. However, both teams are currently focused on other targets.

Liverpool are in talks to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, while Spurs are hoping to snap up Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. It could, therefore, leave the way clear for Newcastle to buy Guehi.
