Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is “keen” to bring in a new right-winger this summer, according to The Athletic.
The Magpies did hold talks about signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace but the 22-year-old is now expected to join Bayern Munich instead.
It is believed the club have targeted three potential alternatives who they could make a bid for before the end of the transfer window.
The Athletic reports that Chelsea’s Noni Madueke, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville are the names that have been “discussed”.
None of Newcastle’s targets will be available on the cheap
Chelsea were also interested in recruiting Olise, along with the Magpies, and their failure to land the Frenchman means they will be very reluctant to sanction the sale of Madueke.
The England Under 21 international had a strong end to last season but the speculation about Olise had raised further questions about his future at Stamford Bridge. It seems unlikely that he leave the Blues now.
The chances of recruiting Bowen are even slimmer. It has been reported that Tottenham have recently made an enquiry for the winger but they were told by West Ham that the player would cost an astonishing £150m.
Summerville is the most realistic option, but Leeds are still keen to get between £35m and £40m for the Dutchman, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last campaign.
One winger looks set to depart St James’ Park
Despite the club actively seeking wide options, it is believed that Newcastle are open to offers for Yankuba Minteh. The Gambian international has returned from a successful loan spell at Feyenoord but the Magpies are looking to raise funds.
It is believed that Lyon are currently favourites for the 19-year-old’s signature after talks with Everton collapsed.
