Newcastle would be “open” to signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani on loan when the transfer window reopens, according to FootballTransfers.com reporter Jacque Talbot.
The France international has been deemed surplus to requirements by head coach Luis Enrique and PSG are expected to offer him out to clubs in January.
Muani, who was bought from Eintracht Frankfurt for €90m (£76m) last year, has only made two starts in all competitions this season despite an injury to first-choice striker Goncalo Ramos.
The 25-year-old is clearly not trusted by Enrique and his club are looking to offload him initially on a temporary basis in view to a permanent exit
There will be competition for Muani
Football Transfers claim that West Ham are also keen on the Frenchman but there are doubts over whether the Hammers can afford his salary.
The Magpies are also in a tight spot when it comes to their wage budget but the club are reportedly hoping to offload Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron in the New Year, which would free up their finances.
Newcastle need to provide competition for Isak
Offering more support for their first-choice No.9 Alexander Isak is believed to be the main reason that Eddie Howe’s side are pursuing Muani.
The Swedish international has been linked with transfers away from St James’ Park (with both Arsenal and Chelsea heavily linked) but the Magpies are keen to build their team around the striker, who has recently spoken out to say that he is happy in the North East.
Some of the workload needs to be taken off Isak, especially when you consider his fitness cannot always be relied upon either. Muani could be an ideal alternative, especially if the club can find a potential buyer for Isak’s current understudy Wilson.
