Howe Makes January Prediction Amid Sensational Claims That Newcastle Will Challenge PL Rivals For £62M Transfer

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says he doesn’t expect the Magpies to do much business during the next transfer window.

The Magpies have historically not made many signings in January and Howe expects that trend to continue:

“It’s very difficult to see what is going to happen. I know no one wants to hear it, but January is always a difficult window in every window so I don’t think we should necessarily go into it expecting any different to any other previous January.”

“Transfer trading, generally, was down last summer compared to the previous summer so will this January follow suit and it’s quieter across the board? Possibly, yes. These are things that don’t go in favour of a busy window so without wanting to make predictions, I’d be surprised if it deviated from that.”

Osimhen links seem far-fetched

Reports from Turkish news outlet Sabah (via Sport Witness) have suggested that the Magpies are one of three Premier League clubs, along with Chelsea and Arsenal, who could be prepared to pay €75m (£62m) for Victor Osimhen in January.

It is a transfer that is very unlikely to happen, not only due to the fact the Nigerian international is currently on loan at Galatasaray but also because the player has publicly stated that he will remain in Turkey until the end of the season.

Keeping hold of Isak will be Newcastle’s priority

The truth is the club is struggling to keep hold of the strikers they already have due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. Howe confirmed last month that contract talks with Alexander Isak have stalled due to concerns about paying over the odds.

Most fans would agree that, if money is to be spent on strengthening the frontline, tying down Isak to a new deal should be prioritised.
