Agent Set To Travel To Europe For Talks As Newcastle Eye Move For Uruguayan Star With £53M Buyout Clause

The agent of Newcastle target Manuel Ugarte will be arriving in Europe next month for talks with Sporting Lisbon about the player’s future, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper claims the Uruguayan international is being watched by the Magpies but Sporting are keen to tie the player down to a new contract.

Ugarte currently has a €60m (£53m) release clause and they will look to increase the figure to €80m (£70.6m) when discussions are held with the player’s representative about an extension.

However, the likelihood of the 22-year-old agreeing to sign a new deal is pretty low, which will provide Newcastle with the opportunity of snapping up the midfielder for a lower fee.

Eddie Howe’s team won’t be alone in pursuing Ugarte this summer, though. Reports in recent weeks have claimed that both Arsenal and Tottenham have also scouted the Uruguayan, so we shall see who ends up making the first move for the player.
