Alan Shearer Names 4 Newcastle Players And 2 Chelsea Stars In His PL Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Alan Shearer has selected four Newcastle players in his official Premier League Team of the Week.

The Magpies legend was impressed with the performance of his former club against Manchester United at the weekend. Despite only winning 1-0, it was a dominant display from Eddie Howe’s men, with Shearer highlighting the performance of Kieran Trippier, in particular:

“Not only was he outstanding defensively, Trippier was a huge threat going forward and laid the goal on a plate for Anthony Gordon.”

Shearer also included Tino Livramento (who played out of position at left-back), Fabian Schar and Gordon in his team.

Newcastle’s outstanding form at St James’ Park continues

After the devastating blow of conceding a late penalty against Paris Saint-Germain last week, it would have been understandable if the Magpies were slightly off their game versus Manchester United.

Yet, as we have already mentioned, the home side were much the better team, having 22 shots to their opponent’s 8. They have now won 7 of their last 8 home league fixtures, with the only blemish being the 2-1 loss they suffered to Liverpool back in August.

Who else made it into Shearer’s Team of the Week?

Chelsea‘s Robert Sanchez was named in goal after he made seven saves during the Blues’ 3-2 win over Brighton on Sunday. Trippier, Schar and Livramento are joined in defence by Everton centre-back James Tarkowski, who helped keep a clean sheet in the Toffees’ 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

In midfield, Shearer went with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez (who scored a brace against the Seagulls), and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold (who scored the Reds’ winner versus Fulham).

Up front, Burnley pair Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni were selected, along with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka and Gordon.
