“It Cannot Be Ruled Out…” Manager Makes Transfer Claim As Newcastle Are Linked With 18 Goal Mexican Ace

Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot says he wouldn’t be surprised if big clubs make offers for Newcastle target Santiago Gimenez this summer.

The Magpies have been mentioned as potential suitors for the 21-year-old in the Mexican press and, when asked about the rumours linking the player with a transfer, Slot said:

“It cannot be ruled out that there are clubs left and right that say ‘gosh, he shoots them in easily and is still quite young’.”

Gimenez only moved from Mexican club Cruz Azul last year but he has already made a big impression in the Netherlands, having racked up 18 goals in 37 appearances for Feyenoord.

The striker has helped to spearhead the Eredivisie side’s title challenge, and they remain eight points clear of second place Ajax with six games to go.

Other Premier League teams are also said to be keeping close tabs on Gimenez’s progress. It is believed that Manchester United, Tottenham, Brighton, Leicester, West Ham and Brentford all had scouts in attendance watching the forward and his teammate Orkun Kocku in the Dutch Cup last week. The Mexican did get on the scoresheet but he was unable to prevent his team from being knocked out at the semi-final stage.
