Newcastle United are looking to strengthen their grip on one of the top four spots in the Premier League – can they do so with a win over Sam Allardyce’s Leeds United?

Newcastle are expected to be without Sean Longstaff, Jamaal Lascelles, Emil Krafth and Ryan Fraser for their game against the Whites. Aside from this, the Toon have no new injury concerns.

In their last game, Newcastle were unlucky to be beaten 2-0 at home by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. The Magpies enjoyed several spells of dominance, but the Gunners held firm and hit them on the counter – their goals on the day were scored by Martin Odegaard and an own goal from Fabian Schar.

Meanwhile, Leeds were beaten by Manchester City in their last game, but they impressed fans and pundits alike with their uncharacteristic robustness in the face of such lofty opposition.

When the two teams last met in competitive action, back on New Year’s Eve, the scores were level after ninety minutes with neither team managing to make a breakthrough. While Newcastle were the dominant team, they were unable to find a way beyond Illan Meslier in the Whites’ net – let’s hope for a more entertaining encounter this time around.
