Newcastle Star Named Alongside Arsenal, United And Liverpool Players In Garth Crooks’ Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has paid tribute to Kieran Trippier’s passing ability after the Newcastle fullback was named in his “Team of the Week”.

The 33-year-old delivered an outstanding delivery for Jacob Murphy to score the Magpies’ opener against Crystal Palace at the weekend, leading Crooks to say:

“The volleyed pass from Kieran Trippier for Jacob Murphy to score was nothing short of outstanding. The Newcastle captain is capable of delivering a ball as well as anyone in the Premier League.”

Tripper’s assist for Murphy was his 7th of the season in all competitions. Considering that he managed to get 10 in the whole of last season, he is well on his way to surpassing that figure.

With Newcastle facing Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this week, fans will be hoping he can carry on creating goals for his teammates when they take on the Bundesliga giants.

Trippier is in the form of his life

Since joining the Magpies in January 2022, Trippier has averaged a goal or assist every 3.15 games, which is an incredible ratio for a player who is ostensibly a right-back.

Manager Eddie Howe is certainly getting the best out of the England international, who only cost £12m (plus add-ons) when he arrived from Atletico Madrid. What a bargain he has proven to be.

Who else has made it into Crooks’ Team of the Week?

The pundit went with Guglielmo Vicario in goal. The Italian has been impressive since becoming Tottenham’s No.1 at the start of the season.

Trippier is joined in defence by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk (who helped keep a clean sheet in the Merseyside derby) and Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot (who scored his team’s winner against Sheffield United).

Arsenal‘s Declan Rice, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, Tottenham playmaker James Maddison and Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku make up a four-man midfield.

Up front, Crooks has selected Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo alongside Liverpool’s Mo Salah and City’s Erling Haaland.
