Newcastle United are currently undergoing ‘advanced negotiations’ for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to a report from TalkSPORT.

Tonali will not come cheap if the Toon decide to snap him up in the summer transfer window – TalkSPORT states that he is rated at £45 million by his current club. However, with Newcastle’s vast financial resources, they should be able to meet this asking price.

As things stand, Newcastle appear to be the only team who are seriously linked with a move for the Italian metronome. Arsenal had been previously interested in a move for the player, but nothing has surfaced on their end since the summer transfer window of 2022.

Sandro Tonali is an extremely gifted holding midfield player. His key strengths lie in his passing and vision – he is able to pick out his teammates from deep positions with alarming regularity.

While he isn’t the strongest defensive player in the world, his sheer technical ability more than makes up for it. He can also pop up with a goal from time to time, too. In many ways, he is similar to West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

Born in 2000, Tonali joined the youth academy of Piacenza at the age of nine. After three years with I Biancorossi, he joined the Brescia academy in 2012.

While at Brescia, he swiftly established himself as one of the leading young talents in Italian football. This was noticed by AC Milan – after an initial loan move, he completed a permanent transfer to the club in 2021.

During his first season as a fully-established AC player, Tonali helped to guide I Rossoneri to an historic Serie A title victory – just a couple of years after he led Brescia to the Serie B title. So far, Tonali has made 70 appearances for AC Milan, scoring seven goals in total.

Additionally, Tonali has also earned himself a handful of caps for the Italian national team. He has made 14 appearance on the international stage for Italy, but has yet to score a goal for his country.
