REPORT: Newcastle United ‘Ready’ To Make Transfer Offer For 42-Cap Winger

Newcastle United are reportedly ‘ready’ to make an offer of £43 million for Juventus and Italy winger Federico Chiesa, according to a report from Italian sports media outlet Tuttosport.

Despite this, Newcastle are not the only club who are thought to have Chiesa in their crosshairs. Aston Villa, alongside a number of unnamed clubs in Saudi Arabia, are also believed to be in the race for his signature.

With this being said, Chiesa appears to be unwilling to pursue a move to the Saudi Pro League – so far, he has rejected at least one offer from a club in Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle will enter negotiations with a distinct advantage over their rivals – they will be playing in the Champions League next season, whereas Aston Villa and the Saudi Arabian clubs will not.

Could Federico Chiesa be Newcastle United’s marquee summer signing?

If Newcastle United complete a deal for Chiesa, it will be seen as a monumental deal – however, will it be a more earth-shattering transfer than the purchase of Sandro Tonali?

When the Mags snapped up Tonali, everyone immediately took notice – it was viewed as a signing that could propel them to becoming a Champions League mainstay. Newcastle lacked a top-quality defensive midfielder last season – now, they have one.

Would Chiesa have the same impact? Perhaps not – Tonali was the perfect signing for Newcastle at the time, whereas Chiesa would not improve the squad quite as dramatically.

How will Chiesa improve the squad?

With the loss of Allan Saint-Maximin, United are looking to make improvements to their squad in an attacking sense. They have already snapped up Harvey Barnes from Leicester City – could the acquisition of Chiesa be a bit too much?

Newcastle’s current wingers are Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser, Garang Kuol, Anthony Gordon and the newly-signed Harvey Barnes. As such, they do not need another wide man.

Should Newcastle opt to sign Chiesa, some fans may see it as a waste. While Chiesa is a fantastic player, he would be a superfluous addition – it could also upset established first-teamers, who may feel that Chiesa could threaten their place in the squad.
