REPORT: Newcastle United Believed To Be Interested In £62 Million Chelsea Defender

Newcastle United are believed to be interested in a transfer move for Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, according to

However, should the Toon wish to complete a deal for Cucurella, they will reportedly need to pay the Blues no less than a sum of £60 million.

Chelsea paid £62 million for Cucurella when they initially signed him from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022 – they will be looking to recoup as much of this fee as possible, according to the Telegraph.

It may be difficult to find a suitor who would be willing to pay this price – but with Newcastle’s vast swathes of financial resources, could they take the plunge?

Who else are Newcastle looking at in the left-back position?

Cucurella isn’t the only left-back that Newcastle are interested in bringing to the club. Over the past few months, they have also been monitoring Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney – moreover, the Gunners are also keen to move the Scottish international on.

Newcastle are not the only team in pursuit of Tierney – his former club, Celtic, are thought to be interested in forming a reunion with the 26-year-old.

Do the Mags need a new left-back in their team?

Currently, Newcastle look like an outfit that are firing on all cylinders. They were excellent against Aston Villa at the weekend, sweeping aside Unai Emery’s team by a score of 5-1.

It was a comfortable victory for the Toon – in many ways, they looked like a team that did not need improvements. Nevertheless, however, as the season drags on, injuries could begin to take their toll.

Newcastle will be playing Champions League football this season – as such, their fixture list will be more congested than it was in the 2022/23 campaign.

Against Villa, Dan Burn once again took on the role of left-back – and, true to form, he performed an admirable job in the position, despite being a lumbering centre-back.

Newcastle will probably need to sign a left-back before the transfer window shuts – but they do not need to spend a huge amount of money on one. Given Cucurella’s massive price tag of £60 million, the Magpies may be better served by seeking out options elsewhere.
