Newcastle United Reportedly Interested In South American Prodigy For Transfer

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Argentinean wonderkid Carlos Alcaraz, who currently plays for Southampton, according to a report from TalkSPORT.

While the Toon have yet to submit a formal bid for the player, they are understood to have been ‘watching’ him and monitoring his progress. Aged just 20, he has plenty of potential in the modern game.

A technically gifted midfielder with an eye for goal, Alcaraz can both create goals and score them himself if necessary. Primarily a central midfielder, the 20-year-old can also function as a right winger.

Who else, besides Newcastle, is interested in Carlos Alcaraz?

When Southampton snapped up Alcaraz in January of this year, they had to fend off competition from clubs such as Benfica, Inter Milan and Arsenal [via Hampshire Live].

All of these clubs could resume their interest in the player following the Saints’ relegation – however, Newcastle are the only club to be linked with Alcaraz in the last few weeks.

Carlos Alcaraz career summary

Alcaraz joined his first club, Deportes Infantiles de Villa Elisa, when he was just ten years of age. Five years later, he was snapped up by Racing Club – he would make his professional debut for the club in 2020 in a game against Atlético Tucumán.

His crowning achievement with Racing Club came when he scored the winning goal in the 2022 Argentine Cup Final against Boca Juniors – even if a red card soon followed. In total, he scored nine goals for Racing Club across 66 appearances.

Following a major bidding war for the player in the January transfer window of 2023, he opted to sign for Southampton – he made his Premier League debut on January 14.

While he performed admirably well on an individual level, scoring four goals and registering two assists, he could not save the Saints from finishing bottom of the Premier League table that season.
