Newcastle Vs Liverpool: Match Preview And Injury News

Newcastle United are set to take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the weekend, in a game that could solidify the Magpies’ position in the top four.

Newcastle will be without as many as seven first team players for their crunch clash with the Reds – however, two of them are expected to be available.

Emil Krafth, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett and Joe Willock will all miss the Liverpool game due to injury. Additionally, Bruno Guimarães is still suspended, following the red card he picked up in Newcastle’s EFL Cup win over Southampton.

Jamaal Lascelles should also be ready to play, but given that he’s expected to leave the club in the summer, it is unlikely that he’ll start.

Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson are both doubts, but should be fit to play against Liverpool – even if they don’t play the full 90 minutes. On top of this, Miguel Almiron should be able to feature, after he played 81 minutes (and scored) in Newcastle’s last Premier League game against Bournemouth.

Newcastle are currently fourth in the Premier League table just behind Manchester United, having lost just one game all season – the fewest losses of any team in the division. Liverpool, meanwhile, are in ninth place.

However, it’s not as simple as it may appear – Liverpool are the one team to have inflicted defeat upon the Magpies this year. They did so in dramatic fashion, too, thanks to a last minute winner from Fabio Carvalho.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle will be looking to set the record straight against the Reds in the reverse fixture. Will it be a case of repeat or revenge at the weekend?
